To be a full-time student at Sogang University, exchange students must take a minimum of 9 credits to a maximum of 15 credits per semester, including the Korean Language Program.
Students taking the intensive Korean language course (12 credits) must register for at least one regular course from the University in addition to language course to maintain their status as exchange students.
Course registration will be done online through Sogang’s SAINT Portal system prior to departure. Online course registration usually takes place in January for Spring semester and in July for Fall semester. Dates for course registration will be announced later. There will be a course revision period where studetns can change their courses when the semester begins.

Note: For admittance to a Direct Program you must first be nominated by the Center for International Education to the Direct Exchange Partner University.
- Apply through Xavier’s online application system, pay application fee and program deposit.
- After these steps are complete, the Center for International Education will nominate you unless we have hit capacity on the number of students who can attend this program during that semester.
- After nomination is received by Sogang, they will send you an e-mail with log in information to Sogang’s application site for the exchange program. Applications should log in and fill out the online application form using the provided log in information.

Gonzaga Dormitory – this dormitory houses students from all over the world in a multicultural atmosphere. 2 students per room. Facilities include cafeteria, laundry room, prayer room, gym, and others.
Applying for On-campus Accommodations
All exchange students must apply through the Office of International Affairs at the time of application. Students must upload the dormitory application form when submitting their exchange application.
All incoming exchange students should submit proof of health insurance valid in Korea to the Office of International Affairs along with the application documents by the application deadline.
In accordance with the university’s Travel Policy, all students must be enrolled in international health insurance while abroad. Xavier University’s insurance provider is Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). We will purchase this insurance on your behalf to meet KUBS insurance requirement as well as Xavier’s. The cost of CISI insurance is $36.50 per month abroad.
As a citizen of a country other than Korea, you must apply for a relevant visa at a Korean Embassy or Korean Consulate to study in Korea. In order to apply for a valid visa (D-2), you must submit the required documents to the embassy. Since visa issuance process may take a considerable amount of time, you are requested to submit the required documents as soon as you receive confirmation of enrollment from Sogang University.
After you receive the confirmation of enrollment from Sogang University (in case of an exchange student – Letter of Acceptance and Certificate of Admissions), you must visit the nearest Korean Embassy or Korean Consulate with the required documents and apply for the relevant visa.
